Email delivery timing guide

How long do temporary emails take? Stop guessing with repeated resends

Most verification emails arrive soon after the sender actually submits them, but queues, greylisting, domain policies, and sender outages can cause delays. Use the checkpoints below for troubleshooting, not as a delivery guarantee.

Checkpoints

One send, four checkpoints

Repeatedly clicking resend can invalidate an older code or trigger sender rate limits. First, confirm that the page clearly says the message was sent.

0–30 seconds: refresh once

Check whether the registration page shows a successful send, and make sure the copied email address has no missing characters. You do not need to refresh the inbox every second.

2 minutes: check the sender details

Refresh once more and confirm that you selected the correct login or registration flow. Some systems send the code to an address saved earlier.

5 minutes: resend once

If the sender allows it, resend once and use only the newest verification code. Do not switch temporary addresses, or the resend may still go to the old address.

10 minutes: check for a sender outage

If nothing has arrived, check the sender’s status, the address domain’s acceptance policy, or contact their support team. Refreshing blindly cannot fix an email that was never sent.

Sources of delay

Several queues stand between Send and your inbox

“Verification code sent” only means the app accepted the request; it does not necessarily mean its mail server has completed delivery.

Sending app

Generates the email, applies rate limits, and places it in its own task queue.

Email network

Resolves the domain, establishes a connection, and applies anti-spam rules.

OrbSend inbox

Accepts valid messages and adds them to the current address’s inbox.

Do not treat waiting time as a reliability guarantee

OrbSend cannot control when a third party generates an email or require a website to accept temporary addresses. For important accounts, use a long-term email address you control or a forwarding alias, and keep recovery options available.
